New Yam Festival in Ọgọ̀tún and Ògòsì in Àfá Oke-Agbe

On July 9, 2016 2 two quarters: g̀tún and Ògòsì in Àfá Òkè-àgbè celebrated the New Yam festival The celebration was marked with the presentation of a bilingual short history of ancient Àfá Òkè-àgbè the administrative head quarter of Akoko North West Local Government of Ondo State. The book presentation and launching was celebrated with a lot of fun fare. See attached.

In chat with the book author, Professor Oladele Awobuluyi,

he expresses his happiness and gratitude to God for making the day a reality. The book is written to put Àfá historical claims in some quarters on the non existence of monarchy in Àfá Òkè-àgbè before a stated period right. He argued that the location of Ita ba

on ancient gtún Àfà land which was probably a place of worship in the ba’s palace is an evidence of an existence of a governance headed by the ba. Secondly the marked lines on the oríkì maker references to Àòfin, Àtìbà which was the original name of the settlement at the ancient location (apolé).

The indigent of g̀tún in Àfá Òkè-àgbè welcomed the new historical development with fun fare chanting the oriki of g̀tún as it coincided with its annual new yam festival in the community. However global warning affected the production of yam in the area. Consequently, joff rice was served with water.
